I was sitting here trying to figure out what I was going to write about and then I remembered... I literally mapped out everything I want to write about for the next two months. Yeah!
What's even more awesome is that totally ties right in with what I'm supposed to write about today. 😆
I have to overplan and stay organized, otherwise nothing will ever get done. I do mean ever.
Linda missed a dentist appointment yesterday because I didn't write it in my planner, set a reminder on my phone, or put it on our weekly whiteboard calendar.
Do you struggle with staying organized too?
Something that has helped a ton has been to cut down on excess clutter. I'm not an extreme minimalist by any means, but I do try not to accumulate more than I have room to display and store with the space and furniture I already own.
Having less clutter means I'm less distracted and more organized in general.
I got super motivated a few years back and Kon Mari'd our home. Best decision ever! It gave me a starting point.
After that, I used Fly Lady's daily cleaning tips and weekly schedules to stay on top of everything.
Now, I've developed other systems to stay on track.
Let's try something together. Let's pick one area that always seems to accumulate clutter. Some ideas: the dining table, your nightstand, the kitchen counter, etc.
Every day, set a 15 minute timer (this is a Fly Lady strategy and it totally works!) to work on this area. Deal with each individual item immediately. Shred that old bill that you paid ages ago, put away that pair of gloves, take the action figure to your kiddo's room, etc. As soon as the timer goes off, stop. Repeat the process every day for a week. When you get to a point where the area is clear, start wiping it down every day.
Doing this will give you a focal spot where things are neat and tidy. For me, this immediately makes me feel accomplished and energized!
